Traditional Balinese cooking in Ubud with a local family with Dewa

This was hands down one of the best things we did on our Honeymoon, and one of the best cooking class we have ever done. This is so much more than a cooking class, we spent the whole day with Dewa and his family learning all about his life, his village, and life in Bali. Dewa is so incredibly kind, and knowledgable you will love spending time with him. The food we made was delicious, and healthy, and Dewa gave us a handmade journal for us to write the recipes down in. We got a full look at Dewa's village, and got to see exactly where all of our food was coming from. We loved this and cannot recommend it enough. Thank you so much Dewa for all your kindness, we loved spending time with you and your family!

Gianyar market visit, hands-on cooking class and transfers in Ubud with Kadek and Putu

This was such an amazing experience and would encourage everyone who goes to Bali to do it. We had so much fun learning about the ingredients that go into the meals and the preparation of the food. We had lots of different conversations and many laughters. The star of the show was of course the part where we shared the meals. I really loved this, and grateful for Kadek and his wife for hosting us 😊 This is an experience we will never forget, you were so warm and welcoming. 😊

Wood-fired Balinese cooking class in Ubud with Wayan with Wayan Manis

Wayan and her family warmly welcomed me into their traditional home. After having lived in Indonesia for 16 years and eating a multitude of different regional cuisines, I found Wayan’s dishes to be distinct, simple and delicious. It was a wonderful way to have more of local experience in Bali, spending the afternoon learning how to cook and indulging in traditional Balinese food. Very few homes in Bali still cook food the traditional way, using an open flame wood-burning oven. It was fascinating to watch her cook all the dishes over the open hot flame, which then added so much extra flavor to each dish! Every bite was incredible, and I love how all the ingredients she used were so simple yet combined created such powerful flavors. After the meal, Wayan gave me a mini tour of her property and showed me where they raise their own pigs, so I got to see two large pigs and several piglets. Since Bali is a Hindu province in Indonesia, the roasted suckling pig (Babi Guling) is an extremely popular and enjoyable dish in the region.

Balinese cooking class in Ubud with a professional chef with Santika

🌟🌟🌟We would highly recommend this cooking class. 4 family members did Class 1. We spent a fun few hours learning how to make some wonderful Indonesian food. The Chef, Santika, is so knowledgable and helpful and is obviously passionate about food preparation. His whole team work hard to make sure the class runs very smoothly. Enjoying the food after the class was really wonderful. Can't wait to try the recipes once we are home again.

Small-group farm tour and cooking class in Ubud with Kadek

This was a fun and interesting experience. We had a lovely traditional Balinese welcome drink; the food was very fresh and the tuna satay with sambal and green bean salad were our favorite dishes. We ended up having a lovely time and a great day. We walked around the farm to pick up ingredients, cooked a meal, ate and engaged in some cultural discussion. You will walk away learning a lot!

Authentic Balinese cooking class in Ubud with Putu with Putu

Top Experience in Bali. Of our weeklong trip to Bali, the private cooking class with Putu was the highlight. In our other touristy experiences, we saw a very curated picture of the country, but this gave us a true window into Balinese culture and life. We loved walking through the farmer's market and trying new fruits and vegetables (one of my favorite things back home, too!). Putu was a tremendous host, welcoming us into her home and introducing us to her family. She was very helpful in teaching us about all the products/produce we were using and showing us the techniques for cooking traditional dishes. In all, we made 7 dishes, which were all delicious. We requested a completely plant-based menu, and were blown away with the variety of flavors that we created. It was lovely to share the meal with her family. We highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Bali. Thanks, Putu!
