We traveled Morocco for 2 weeks and this was by far one of our favorite experiences and one of the best meals we had! Mohamed and Fouzia were so incredibly kind, warm and welcoming. We felt right at home and were immediately greeted with pastries and tea. Mohamed showed us around his neighborhood and we walked to a local market for some fresh ingredients for our lunch. We cooked lamb and chicken tagine, an eggplant side dish, and had olives. Fouzia made fresh bread which was soooo good. You also get to take the recipes home! We were stuffed and had a delicious shared lunch with Mohamed and Fouzia. Mohamed both picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel after. Recommend the lunch and not rushing so you have time to enjoy the markets and really take time with your meal. Oh and don’t forget dessert after! We had fresh pomegranate and clementines - which we also got from the market earlier. This was such an authentic and amazing experience in Casablanca. Again we were so grateful for Mohamed and Fouzia’s hospitality and cooking!! 10/10 recommend when visiting Casablanca!
I have taken cooking classes in Italy, France, Spain, and now Casablanca....by far the most fun and informative was with Chamsi in Casablanca. She is DELIGHTFUL, and not only took us to the food market, but also to the old souk, out to breakfast near the old fortress, around the city to see the beautiful mosque by the sea, to purchase Ramadan treats at a wonderful bakery, and of course to her home to prepare an awesome and delicious meal. She patiently answered our questions and introduced us to her favorite vendors where we sampled olives, spices, and fresh fruit. We couldn't have had a more wonderful time with anyone else!
Entering Maria's world of cooking is entering the world of Moroccan Classic gastronomy. Her home is well decorated and the food is prepared in a very refined way. The food was presented in an elegant living room and she was very welcoming. During the cooking class, I loved how she talked about her childhood memories related to food and family. We ate a variety of salads and tagines (wild chicken was my favorite!) and fresh oranges with cinnamon. If you want an authentic cooking experience with Moroccan family, I would highly recommend Maria!
Meet Youssouf at your hotel before you drive together to the Maarif market. This is a local market with stalls selling fresh fruits and vegetables, spices, olives, fish, meat, and everything else you need to prepare a Moroccan meal at home. Walk through the market with Youssouf while he introduces you to the local produce and meet some of his favorite vendors to buy a few ingredients for your cooking class.
Travel inland from the port in Casablanca and discover the culture through food, in this Moroccan cooking class in a local home. We recommend all cruise travelers this Casablanca Shore Excursion, for a true and authentic taste of Morocco. Join your host Chamsi and her family for an authentic Moroccan cooking class and meal at their lovely Casablanca home. Chamsi has a deep love for Moroccan food. She learned the ins and outs of Moroccan cooking from the best home cook she knows, her mother-in-law, Lala Naima. This is the perfect way to dig beneath the surface and connect with local Moroccan food and life in a personal and meaningful way!
Roll up your sleeves and help prepare a Moroccan meal with Chamsi in her beautiful open-space kitchen. You’ll cook together for about an hour before sitting down to enjoy the dishes you helped prepare. Some preparation for your meal might be done in advance.
Chamsi prepares typical home-style dishes that are seasonal and often feature Casablanca’s local seafood. You might try lamb tagine with seasonal vegetables, marinated and grilled seafood or Moroccan lemon chicken with olives or camel burger, couscous, tchackchouka (roasted bell pepper salad) or zaalouk (eggplant salad) with homemade bread. You will conclude your meal with a dessert such as milk pastilla or oranges with cinnamon or Moroccan cookies. Chamsi can prepare a wonderful vegetarian meal, meat is halal or can also buy kosher meat, so be sure to ask if you have any special dietary requests at least a week in advance.
