Food is integral in any Parsi home, be it at festivals, as part of tradition or the everyday enjoyment of a leisurely, lavish spread. Nilufer will introduce you to her cuisine and culture, explaining how, centuries ago, they migrated from greater Iran to the western borders of South Asia to avoid persecution. They are fondly referred to as Bawas (men) and Bawis (women) and are known as a loud, eccentric and friendly group of people. Parsi food is known for being meat-centric.
Nilufer lives with her husband and daughter in a charming, tastefully decorated bungalow in Sushant Lok, one of the most up scale areas of Gurgaon. There is a beautiful lawn at the entrance to their home where Nilufer has planted herbs – she especially likes to enjoy a cup of tea with some of her fresh lemon grass when the weather is pleasant!
Nilufer has been creating culinary delights for over 30 years from her home kitchen. Her delicious cakes, mustards, dips and Parsi masalas have been a hit with food lovers. As a family they love entertaining people at their home. Her daughter Anhaita has followed her footsteps and is the chef manager at SodaBottleOpenerWala, a popular restaurant that serves Parsi food.
