Meal
1.5 - 2 hours
Min 1, max 4 guests
Start times: 12:00pm, 6:00pm
Your in-home meal experience in Udaipur starts with a welcome drink before you share a traditional Mewadi meal with Akshay and his family in their home. His sister and mother are the cooks in the family and will serve you typical home-style dishes such as dal bhati churma (an essential Rajasthani dish of lentils served with wheat rolls which have been painted with ghee), ghaat (corn porridge), ghatte sabzi (a regional dish of dumplings in a flavorful curry sauce), and bharva baingan (stuffed eggplant with garlic). You may also be served navrattan pulao (rice pilaf with vegetables and spices) and tomato shorba (Indian-spices tomato soup), served with a variety of homemade pickles, papad (crispy wafers made from of gram flour), and homemade breads like parathas. For dessert you might taste sooji ka halwa, a typical home-style sweet made from semolina. Your meal concludes with a traditional masala chai or lemon tea or, if you prefer, black tea or coffee.
Notes
Since Akshay's house is off a small alley in Udaipur, you may have to walk several feet down a narrow road to reach his home part of which has been converted into a homestay.

"We had a great time visiting Ashkay’s house and cooking with his wife and mum. The food was delicious and we will certainly be trying our new skills out at home now. It was great to join Ashkay and family to eat what we’d cooked and learn some more about Indian culture and life."
