Traditional Colombian cooking class in Pereira with Adriana

I don't know where to begin!!! I'm so glad that we assisted this class, we learned so much. Adriana and her family are gems. She kindly offered to pick us up from our finca and drove us back when the class was over. Our visit started with a tour of her farm where we learned about native fruits, veggies and plants from Risaralda and Quindío. The class began with a homemade cocktail, moved on to our main dish (Marranitas) and finished with a delicious Guanabana dessert. Can't wait to book another class next time I visit my city again! Thank you, Adriana, :)

Daniela and her mother have an amazing personality - very bubbly and welcoming and were happy to answer all our questions about the food, where it was from and the history of Medellin and Colombia. They were great company! The food was great and they live in a very nice, clean and welcoming home. We cooked some fried plantain, which was the best I've ever had!

Colombian cooking class in Bogota with a local chef with Doña

We loved the market tour with Zulma, who explained a lot and had us try several things. After 30 min in an air-conditioned bus, we arrived at Doña Leo's house. She was so welcoming and had us do the majority of the cooking after her explanation. When our Spanish wasn't enough Zulma translated but both tried really hard to speak understandable Spanish for us to practice. We had a lovely lunch with self-made tortillas, pollo pibil that was extremely rich in taste, empanadas, sauces and coconut dessert. After lunch (around 2pm) Zulma called an Uber to bring us back to the city center of Merida, all included. There was no need for a large evening meal after the full lunch.

Learn to cook a Colombian meal in a cooking class with a professional chef and his family with David

For the adventurous traveler, David is the answer. David greeted us at our hostel by surprise and led us to his car where we began one of the greatest culinary adventures of our lives. I literally felt like Anthony Bourdain for the entire 5 hours! After giving us his story of how he got into the culinary field and owned his own high end Colombian restaurant, David began our tour by taking us to one of the biggest and more local markets of Medellin. Later we arrived at his beautiful home we were welcomed in by his mother Gloria who was already working hard preparing our meal. David joined in with his mother and started fresh pressing juices for us. As we sat down at the kitchen bar to watch this master at work, we were joined in by David’s two brothers Luis and Mateo who truly made us feel like we were a part of the family. We were also guided to the herb garden in the backyard where David let us try some of the herbs he grows and regularly uses in his cooking. There were many phases to our experience which we deeply appreciated. It was like Christmas over and over again! And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, a mention of Gloria’s cake was made to life when she insisted she bake us a cake on the spot. Happiness was an understatement at the end of David’s experience. We left with full stomachs and even fuller hearts. Culinary perfection!

Colombian home cooking with a mother-son team with Américo

Américo and his mother welcomed to me into their home this afternoon. We spent some time talking about possible menus and then off we went to several markets to buy the necessary fish, fruits, vegetables and other necessary ingredients for our dinner. Américo is a trained chef and his mother and he make a great team in the kitchen. They taught me how to prepare patacones, yuca frita, arroz, majorra, bocachico, jugo de lulo, ensalada rusa, ensalada de aguacate, papas amarillas, and more! It was delicious! They also took me to the dulceria Dona Mireya and bought me some local specialty sweets. I really appreciated spending the afternoon and evening with this wonderful son and mother team. Everyone in all the local shops knew them and It was interesting to see them interact. This was a great way to spend time with local people and their dog and a great way to get to know the people of Bucaramanga, Colombia, their local products, and their food. I recommend this market visit and cooking class to anyone wanting an authentic cultural and culinary experience.

Private tour of Paloquemao market in Bogota with Maria Jose

This tour was incredible! Sara was very knowledgeable and her English was excellent. I’m so glad my husband and I did a private tour so we were able to do exactly what we wanted. We tried soooo many fruits and other goodies at the market. I wouldn’t have felt comfortable navigating the market by myself.
